The Global PFAS Science Panel (GPSP) is a collaborative partnership among academic researchers, regulatory scientists, and policy analysts.

We are dedicated to enhancing the understanding of PFAS and to protecting human and environmental health from potentially adverse effects associated with PFAS through better informed decision-making.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are synthetic fluorinated chemicals widely used because of their stability and water and oil repellence. Because they contain carbon-fluorine bonds, PFAS are extremely persistent in the environment and some have been shown to be toxic and to bioaccumulate in humans and wildlife. Unless their production and use are checked, PFAS will continue to accumulate on the entire planet, and be sources of exposure for humans and wildlife today and far into the future.

Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to foster development of high-quality scientific research, steward information exchange, and coordinate advancement of science and policy to address the class of PFAS as a global concern. We are facilitating international collaboration among scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders. We collaborate to:

  1. collect and synthesize information on PFAS persistence, mobility, bioaccumulation, exposure, biomonitoring, and toxicity;

  2. coordinate scientific inputs for policy processes;

  3. identify research priorities;

  4. advance science and policy to address the class of PFAS as a global concern;

  5. work toward the global phase-out of non-essential uses of PFASs.
